My initial reaction to the grid of blocks that make up Bari new town certainly improved as the visit progressed there's an odd pleasure in seeing the multitude of balconies looking down onto every street!
Mostly with the latest washing hanging out to dry!plants growing, people just looking , the people.... With the sheer numbers of apartments above each door you'd think the streets would be teeming with people! I assume that their days are starting considerably earlier than mine! Or the rest of my dorm mates.
My first morning was spent wandering around old town passing the column of shame (or justice) where people were tied if they they had committed a crime or not paid a debt.. the lion had originated in Venice, I may see it's like again soon!
Wandering through old towns beautiful twisting lanesi head towards the docks, I've had the idea to go to Croatia by ferry!sadly not this time the next ferry isn't until the middle of the month!
Back into old town and I stop for local seafood for my lunchbefore heading past the basilicaand back into new town for a grocery shop and back to the hostel, I'm still pretty tired so I crash out for the remaining part of the day, everything closes at 2pm ish on a Sunday anyway so that worked out well.
Now my dorm mates have been a joy on this brief visit a larger number of ladies in the rooms has made for a more social atmosphere and a different type of banter, Evi from Holland was a great source of fun and it was a shame to see her go on the morning of Monday!
I headed back out into new town for Monday lunch finding a pizzeria on the edge of old townthe tree lined boulevard making a nice setting!
And the huge pizza making a seriously fat belly! almost rolling back into new town! Stopping at another shop for my travel food for Tuesday, and once again into the hostel for a relaxed remainder of the afternoon.
Not so relaxed for stomach..... In a really nice way the chap who runs the hostel made a huge pasta carbonara for everyone to share, yep how I got that down I don't know!
But we all ate well...hostel chap on the left, Jana in red a German lass from Holland(now heading to Greece, It had been a joy to see the excitement on her face earlier planning it! Then Martina from Poland quite a giggle she was!, the lady with long brown hair is Mathilde from Belgium on a three month tour around Italy.... Really getting to meet the locals and small villages that I'm missing! Finally a chap from new York totally forgotten his name tho!
Most went out to a bar in the evening but I abstained having my packing to sort for the morning.
It's a shame that would have been fun!
