Awake ok still a bit drowsy tho, I need 'out' to finish off the jet lag!
I have breakfast included with this hostel so a bowl of cereal and a banana on top of a strong coffee to power me out the door!
Into this town really for the first time, it strikes me it's likely how America without the revolution would have been!
The older houses wouldn't look too out of place in a Victorian street, the older buildings like colleges and museums would look in place in UK cities, the homelessness is worse here, but it's cleaner than UK towns and cities, and people are generally very polite.... With the drugs (you can buy cannabis in street front shops) you always get addicts and the associated crime levels, some folk you stay clear of on first look..... Once again like most European cities!
The infrastructure looks pure American, Mac trucks everywhere, fire engines look exactly the same as you see in American TV, the noise of police sirens is familiar, the grid of the city once again is as I expect American cities to look, although the street names are mostly British!
The area I'm staying in is part of China town(grocery shopping can be a bit interesting!) but being called Kensington you're immediately in mind of home!
Trams are the go to form of public transport, but I've no idea how to pay and my target the Royal Ontario museum is only a few blocks away and getting the heart pumping a bit is good, a cool design for the museum front tho it does look a little odd the way it's attached to the older main building!
Inside and yep it's museum time, imagine all the big London museums squeezed into a smaller building and your close to understanding the contents of the ROM
Natural history.... In all it's stuffed forms (not my preferred way to see life!)the bear looks way too cuddly!
Two different skunks.... The little spotty fellow is new to me!a great collection of dinosaursand fossils.
A large section on Chinese historythe remains of a temple here ^, plus Chinese weaponry, a beautiful ornate compound bow, I'm guessing a ladies by the size and designwith association of Newfoundland with Leif Erikson there had to be a Viking section.... Understandably small but possibly the last Viking swords that I will see in countries with Viking associationis my search for a better Pommel over?
Certainly for now!
But cowboy movies are my only point of reference.... I'm truly in an alien land with a big sheen of modernity!
Sometimes in all it's excesses!
this one hundred kilogramme gold coin was in 2007 the biggest (one of five produced) and finest purity gold coin in the world 99.999% pure gold!
Would be hard to spend! 😄 back to and out of the entrance under it's fine ceilingthen the short walk back to the hostel picking through Chinese groceries for something I recognise to eat!
Before chilling out to finish off that jet lag!
